One in three women worldwide experiences physical or sexual violence.
In the UK, 70,600 rapes were registered in the year to June 2022. Scotland has experienced an increase of 96% in the number of sexual crimes reported over the past decade. Whilst 108 women were killed by men in 2022.
The cost of living crisis is only adding to the financial barriers women face when trying to leave dangerous situations.
We need to invest to prevent violence against women. Because there’s #NoExcuse for it ever happening in the first place.
Safe Spaces Now is UN Women UK’s programme to create a world where women and girls feel safe in public spaces, across the entire country. 10 years of global UN Women experience tackling harassment is being brought to life at home in the UK.
The goal: for every public space to be safe, open and inclusive for all. So women no longer have to walk home with their keys between their fingers.
